"The Swordmaker"

"For centuries people have used the iron, particulary meteorite iron, in making weapons because it was reasonably available
and it is a pure form of iron. A lot of times people believed that it added special properties to the weapons they were making;
because coming from the sky, we identify 'up there' with Gods and they should have some God blessings"

Maciej "Zac" Zakrzewyski.

This documentary is the result of the cooperative work of a group of people that share the same passion for video production.As a cable access assistant at PEGASYS, I developed a class to involve volunteers who wanted to learn more about video-production and especially the tricks of documentary making such as: scripting, lighting, sound and editing. That was the beginning of a class called: "Documentary making". Soon after, 4 persons joined the class and we began our little journey.The first day of class we discussed the overall idea of the class and tried to find a subject for the project. The same day somebody said:" I know of this guy who makes swords for living", and I thought what a great idea; just picture the fire, iron, color, hammering, etc.The following Saturday we were setting equipment at Zac's workshop. It took us the whole day with a couple breaks in between to gather all the footage. That was the easy part. Now we had to find the time that would fit in with everyone's work schedule to do the editing.
It was hard but we accommodated ourselves to it. When the day arrived, there was real chaos, everyone wanting to edit the documentary on their own terms, with their own style. Unfortunately, we did not have too much time to spare before the end of the proposed time line to finish the project. So we reviewed the whole footage together, put on the table different ideas and then we started working as a team. It was a very nice and interesting experience to have all these individuals working at the same time on the editing process. As you can imane every single one had their own idea of the finished project. Fortunately, the resulting documentary speaks for itself.
I would like to thank the people who participated in the process and specially Zac, for his patience.
